Wiring New VDO Clock in 240 / No Harness 200 82

Hi Guys,

I am leaning toward foregoing the adventure of trying to find a used-working 2-inch Volvo/VDO clock for installation in my 242 DL given the stories I have heard about their lack of reliability. Instead I would like to buy and install a new VDO clock from eGauges (about $48) and forego the search for a Volvo clock that is truly in good condition. What is harder to do without is that convenient wiring harness that comes with the Volvo version of the clock --- which plugs directly into the back of the large tach in the dash to supply light, power, and ground.

Basically, the question is whether or not it makes sense to try to use the stock 3 prong location on the back of the large Volvo tach to supply power to the new VDO clock -- given the fact that the tach provides a 3 prong attachment site and the new VDO clock provides 4 connections (2 neg. and 2 positive connectors to provide illumination, power, and ground).

Has anyone adapted the 3-prong site on the Volo tach. (male spade connectors are labeled +58,-31, and +30) to supply light, power, and ground to a new VDO clock? Can you advise? Thanks.
