740 had weird accelaration problem 700 1989

Driving to work today, doing about 70mph on highway, all of the sudden it was like I lost half the power; car seemed to run fine, didn't stall, but was very strange. Almost like I wasn't losing power past 50%, but wasn't gaining power. Like I dropped from 70mph to 50mph. I went about 1/4 mile and started to pull off to the side, it "kicked" in and ran fine the rest of the way to work. Any idea? Thanks!
