exhaust system -- second muffler/ aftermarket 200 82

I need to replace the entire exhuast system on my 82 DL from behind the CAT. Is it necessary to put in the second muffler? Also, in the archives from 1988 someone mentioned drilling an 1/8" hole in it, if it is installed, to allow condensation to drip. Would this work or is this asking for trouble? Finally, does anyone suggest a good source other than Volvo? Thanks for the help. John.
