Removing Front Fender - How to? 900 1995

The driver's side front carpet was wet so I pull apart everything there and inspected the area to see where the leak is. Water is coming in through a square hole at the driver's side foot well pillar, just behind the jetronic Control Module. The hole is covered with a black plastic cap and sealed with some black compound, similar to those used to seal the windshield. I suspect a certain part of this sealing compound has harden over time causing an opening in the plastic cap.

To fix this I need to remove the front fender because that plastic cap is secured on both sides (that's what Volvo dealer here told me). I want to do this job myself because the Volvo dealer here said they contract out body works to outside parties anyway and that I will have to leave the car with them for a day or two.

Can anyone tell me how to remove the front fender?

Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance

Out of curiosity, what is that vent for, when it had to be sealed? As far as I can see, it serves no purpose. I'm in a tropical country so perhaps that hole is for models in country where hot air can enter during the cold season. Just a guess.
