Power Antenna Mast 900 1991

My 940 sedan's power antenna mast only extends to two of its three sections. I have a new part, but i can't figure out how to get the old one out. Supposedly if you take off the top nut and turn on the radio, it will come out, or you can just pull it out. It is in there quite firm when i try this. So i took the whole assembaly apart. The vinal cord and everything is intact, but i still can't get it out for the life of me. Its not bent very bad at all, so im stumped. Should i just force it really hard? I've taken out pretty much every screw and bolt i could find. Is there something hidden? I'm stumped.
