heater valve 1800 1972

I have had my heater on so long that I didn't realize that the heater valve was stuck in the hot position untill it got to hot in the car the other day and I couldn't turn it off. I tried lubricating the valve controls and forcing it shut but it wouldn't budge. Can I get this thing working again or will I have to replace it? Thanks!
