improve radio reception? 900 93

My 93 940sw has the radio ant in the aft side glass. This just doesn't cut it because I live some distance from most decent stations. My other cars have masts that work just fine. Has anyone had luck w/ boosters? How much trouble is it to install a mast? I really don't want to spend the bucks on a Volvo power ant. Thanx
