clunking sound in rear 700 1990

Well I finally got around to replacing the rear rotors and brake pads on my 740. I also have new KYB shocks for the rear, but could not for the life of me find my 18mm socket, so those will be put on another day.

After getting everything together and testing the brakes while the car was still on the jack stands everything seemed fine so I took it for a test ride around the block. The car seemed to have a clunk coming from the drivers side rear. Could this be from the worn shocks? These are the orginal shocks (112K miles). The car was supported from the jack points in front of the rear wheel wells so the axle was hanging. Could this have finally done the shocks in? I'm hoping to try and get the shocks changed asap, but don't think I'll get the chance for another couple of weeks(about the only time I have is from 10pm to midnight and I hate working on outside at night).

Am I correct in my thinking (shocks) or did I seriously screw something up? I did drive it to work today (15 miles 90% highway) and it stilled clunked at lower speeds, but not as much on the highway. The brake pedal seems fine and there was no smoke/smell from the rear brakes.

Thanks,

Peeter
