Advice on "AfterMarket" scanner harware/software. 900 1996

I'm looking for a source for a cable and software to use with my PALM or a PC to read the codes from my OBD-II ECU.

A few weeks ago there was a thread on one that someone got.

I spent a long time searching the net about a year ago and found a couple but I'm sure that survey work is obsolete and I need to get one NOW!

My "Check Engine" light is back on but the car is running fine. (It reset for a couple days after I disconnected the battery while fixing the AC.)
