Today I had to get my Va. State inspections. I was sweating the emissions test since the Beast has 280,000 miles on it. It needs an oil change, the plugs have been in for quite a while and are Bosch Platinums, which have a bad rep. with Turbos. It also has the original injector seals It smokes a little on start up and the oil consumption is a little high, for my liking. Suprise, suprise, it passed. The inspector was amazed it took so little time for the sampling machine to get the resumts. He said some new cars take quite a while. I suspect the emissions on new cars are so low it does take quite a while to get a reliable sample. Ok so here are the numbers.
15 MPH
pollutant limit reading
HC ppm 167 33
CO% 0.94 0.17
NOX 1273 131
25 mph
HC 162 43
CO 1.04 0.53
NOX 1163 589
The inspector also said they hook up the OBD2 stuff and read the codes. If the check engine light is on it's an automatic failure. He also said the older cars will not be 'liked'.
I can't wait for OBD1984!
