Engine Died While Idling 200 1989

I need some quick help/advice. I drove my car to the local Park & Ride to meet my carpool buddy and while waiting for him to arrive, I parked and had the engine idling. My friend arrived, and while he was walking over to my car my engine sputtered and stopped. Attempts to revive it were unsuccessful. Engine cranks fine...volts ok, temp was ok, full tank of gas.

I had it towed to my local dealer. I (and the dealer) thought it would likely be the fuel pump relay, main fuel pump, or pre-pump. They just gave me a call and said dianostics ruled out all of the above and although still tracing the problem, said they were leaning toward a faulty computer. Any ideas about this or anyone had a similar problem? If I do have to replace the computer, they said the part was $500-800 (rough estimate without looking it up). Is this reasonable or is it possible to pull one out of a dead brick and replace mine?

I hate it when my wallet gets lighter when I don't plan on it!!

Hopeful,

Jonathan
