Beware of False Motor Mount Information 200 91

I am struggling with how to get across to you other DIY people out there that I have just been duped by a person at this site and by IPD (who both gave me false info) on motor mounts - without having to write this long ordeal out. So I decided to give you the basics and if you want more specifics then email me for more details.

I needed two motor mounts. I did some detailed research which showed that there were five main sources of mounts being made.

1. OEM Mfr. unknown. Has a seam in the middle of the very firm rubber. Most expensive mounts. $35-$60.

2. Swedish Mfr. Scantek brand, hard rubber type with seam in the middle. Likely same as OEM Mfr. Approx. $14-$35.

3. German Mfr. PE brand, a somewhat softer rubber mount, but probably adequate. Approx. $6-$15.

4. Korean made, Anchor brand. Widely available. Not much known about these. I decided on my own they are probably junk - associating Korean products with Taiwan stuff. Around $12-$20 from various vendors.

5. Some guy claims to have found some India made mounts. Could not get any further info on these.

Anyway, I posted a question here as I usually do when I need to know about something for the first time. I got some answers as usual. But this one guy sent me a private email and said I should not get the German made mounts because he used them both (the main thing I recall is that it mostly had to do with an increased engine shaking). He said he had used them both but that the ones with the seam in the middle were definitely worth the extra $$$. He said "Trust me on this one" to me. He said, to paraphrase him, "You want the ones from IPD." I still wasn't satisfied so I posed the question again, except this time I posted my research results. Well, this guy went into a good bit of detail, which I appreciated, but at the end he said in a snippy tone, "Does that answer your question." I sensed the frustration. Well, perhaps the thought was there but the researching was lacking sorely, sorry to say.

Now I could have had the German PE brand for about $6.50 each (total $18.00 with S&H), from FCP, in Groton, CT. Well, I decided to order the ones from IPD (total approx. $35.00). In fact, I called IPD in advance just to make sure I was going to get the hard ones from Scantek. I made the IPD Rep go and take one off the shelf and he confirmed that is what they indeed sold.

A week later the mounts arrived and I opened the box in anticipation only to find blue boxes with the German PE brand on them, and softer rubber mounts without any seams. Now if I have to use the German mounts, then why should I pay IPD twice what I can get them from FCP for?

Today I tele IPD about advertising products they do not have and they apologized and said they will give me a refund with my Shipping costs. Evidently they did have them but are now selling only the softer rubber German ones. Wish I would have been told that ahead of time by this other guy. But heck, I did ask IPD before I decided to order, and the guy actually had one in his hand. Oh well!

Beware of false info out there.

Sincerely,

Rob
