Hey,
I've been working on getting my 740T up to my "standards" since I got it about a month ago. I'm not much of a mechanic, so it has mostly been easy stuff, like fixing potential rust spots on the body and touching up the rustproofing on the underbody (I'm not a big fan of ANY rust), cleaning, waxing, etc. Anyway, This may come as a surprise to some...... There are little Oval plugs in the frame rails. They are on each side at the back of the rear wheel wells and on each side in the front of the front wheel wells. If you look in at them, everything looks fine. Look CLOSER and you'll notice that the undercoating around them is puffed out a bit. Take a screw driver or something and poke this area..........there's a good chance that if you live somewhere were cars are prone to rust, you will hear a little crunch. That is rust UNDER the undercoating! I have pulled all 4 caps and discovered that the rust starts around the plug. I've striped the factory undercoating so that the rust is exposed, and have applied a few coats of "Rust Check: Rust Killer" primer and then sprayed over the primer (dry) with black "rockerguard". I allowed that to dry and then reinstalled the plugs. I have also found the same kind of rust under the undercoating above and around the strut control arm(?) mount at the back of the front wheel wells. I just thought I'd warn you guys in case you didn't already know. You CAN'T see this rust because it is under the black undercoating and if left alone could lead to structural problems in the future. Hope this helps! Ask if you are unsure of where (or what) I mean.
