It runs again, not trustworthy tho (long) 200 1986

Hello Reader -

The 1986 244GL quit some 2 weeks back. Tried what I could where I was, but ultimately got wife.helper to tow us home with her 1988 244GL. Did the jump fuses and listen in tank test. Report: a hum and a swishing noise.

Swiching noise? The gas guage was low, but not that low, I thought. Dumped in 2 gallons from garage stock (lawnmower) and she fired right up.

Next day, put another 5 gallons in, went to office - almost. It quit but was able to get a push into parking lot. Swapped 25A fuse, got rid of the plastic holder which was FUBAR, and still no start. Towed home again.

Tried a start the next day - cold engine. Caught and quit and stayed quit.

Things being hectic 'round here (roof leak, moldy sheetrock, busted washing machine, other messes) I let it sit a week or so with battery disconn.

Looked over main relay, no cracks seen. Learned that if tach needle moves while attempting start, the Hall effect sensor is OK.

Tonight I tried the "Hall sensor" test. It passed. In fact the @#$% thing started right up, ran OK. Now - what the H__L is the problem.

Have you any ideas on what would make such an intermittent quit happen?

TIA, all info greatfully accepted.

Thanks,

Bob
