Overdrive engagement 700 1987

My wife had a curious problem with our 1987 740 GLE wagon the other day. Driving along and shifting into OD, no response. Tried a couple of time, nothing, forgot about it, then a mile later it shifted into OD (she had not hit the button again). It has worked flawlessly for me everytime I've tried it since this happened to her two days ago. Weather, if it matters, has been constant, temps outside in the 60s. Just wondering if this is indicative of possible problems to come. I love this car and want to stay on the upside of repairs.
