Inlet manifold air jets 700 1986

This is a V6 B28E engine. Non turbo. there are 2 large air bypass jets just above the idle jet next to the throttle butterfly.The manual I have (Haynes) says dont touch these!!but I see the plastic caps are off them and a fair few screwdriver marks in them,any clues on how they are checked or adjusted.
