Used Amsoil synthetic ATF for 64K, bought the car @50K, now 114K, six years. Commuter car, not garage queen. Dropped the pan and changed filter/gasket (BTW, GET the $5.00 non-cork gasket if the volvo dealer has them...the cork gasket looked like a bear to install unless you glue it on the pan!)...pan was clean with no grunge or clutch material...this on a car with 14psi boost and rrpfr...regularly shifted at wot 6K indicated. Since pan was clean and fluid clear/not discolored, I just added 4.5 qts of new ATF and buttoned it up.

P/S fluid was typical gunk...took about 5 changes of the reservoir with a sucker to get the thing clean with amsoil ATF...I was working at a DIY at a dealer and didn't want to flush the normal way...too much mess to clean up if it fooshed (you get the idea) all over the floor!

Engine oil/filter change standard stuff, 10K per change, NO oil used in 10K miles. Spectrometric oil analysis normal...the lab says stuff is good to go/no change required, but I dunno...I don't like the carbon particulate (soot) buildup after 14K....

Synthetic is surely the way to go!
