Warped rotors 200 1987

My son's 244 has a steering wheel shimmy under braking, only at certain speeds. The rotors look new but I have been working on cars long enough to know that it is probably a warped rotor. My question is: can the rotors be turned, or will I have to replace them? I know that a lot of shops now days tell you that they are out of spec even when they are not,but I know a guy with a rotor lathe that will probably turn them for me as long as they are not dangerously thin, which I know they are not.
