Hello,
I have a 1983 240DL with 4 speed OD (second owner, purchased from brother-in-law in 1986 who leased it originally). The car has covered only 102,500 miles and has spent it's whole life in Northern California (rust free!). It is currently an extra car that I drive periodically. The interior and bodywork are in excellent condition. I recently had the wiring harness in the engine bay, timing belt and fuel pump under the car replaced, as well as some other items replaced (spent ~$2,000 in parts and labour). The car has been well maintained and has recently been checked by a mechanic who gave it a great evaluation. The *only* problem is that "Mysterious Problem" I posted on a couple of weeks ago (still unresolved). [BTW, what happens to older threads? Can't find my posting on current messages or archive?????) Seems like one only has a few days before threads go walk about... ;-)
Now my question: what repairs and associated costs am I likely to encounter as time goes on? I have a party who is anxious to purchase the car (a Volvo enthusiast to be sure). I understand Volvos can go for several hundred thousand miles without major engine/gearbox work? What would a car as described about be worth? Your input is greatly appreciated. I like the car and the fact that its paid for and costs little to operate, so I may keep it. :-)
Cheers,
Will
