remote shifter stick disassembly 120-130 66

OD into trans with tunnel adapter into 122 wagon.

What we have here is a remote (long cover) shifter with threaded cap (early type?), not retaining ring type stick. The plastic cap above the spring is worn/torn. We also have the long stick from the M40 and wanted to dissassemble both to swap plastic disk. Am unable to figure out how to disassemble sticks.

short stick - rubber bushing pressed inside chromed tube above plastic disk seems to be not removable without tearing it up. On the lover end, I pounded out the pin, before discovering that the "ball" is tack welded to the shaft, which tells me that all should be disassmbled from the top. Is this right?

long stick - circlip removed and stick and separated from handle, but steel ring on top side of rubber bushing is tack welded to stick, which would seem to mean that stick should be disassembled from the bottom, but the pin doesn't budge (ball appears not to be tack welded to stick). How do we replace the plastic disK?
