HVAC controls not working 200 1987

My Heating/Ventilation/AC controls are not working and haven't been for a long while. At first I just thought the defrostor was really crappy, but then I realized that when you put on the vent that blows at the feet, it doesn't change anything. And the recirculating switch doesn't seem to recirculate the air in the car. So basically what ever button I press, It still blows air out the regular vents, the feet vents and a itty bitty tiny bit out the defroster.

I read in the archives that this happened to someone else after they took their 240 in to get serviced at the dealer. I did not get any solution though from that post.

That same post also noted that the 'click' they used to hear when they would use those switches, was not audible any more. I don't have a audible 'click' either.

Could it be that someone knocked something behind the center console, or do I maybe need to replace something in this semi-old car ( '87, 200K+ miles ).

Thanks in advance. I wish I realized this in the winter when I needed the defroster!
