In my 86 245, the steering rack has developed some resistance when turning the car to the right.

When I was last under the car, I noticed the boot on the passengher side was torn open and I stuck my finger in there to feel the rod, and sure enough it was wet..

Well, I opened the reservoir (a remote one, not attached to the PS pump) and the fluid was low..

Anyway, the fluid was red, suggesting that they had swapped in some AT fluid..

But all I had was normal clear PS fluid, so I topped it off with that..

A day later, the steering started acting up.. It resists turning eithere direction and 'groans' now when I turn the wheel, making a noise at the steering wheel when turning.

You mainly feel it when turning the wheel right though.

What should I do??

I bought some steering rack leak stopper (some miracle liquid of course) but I haven't installed it yet..

Did mixing PS fluid and AT fluid cause some gummy mess in there or something??

Is it possible to flush all that stuff out and start over?

And.. Should I try this leak stopper? or is it just hokem??

I bought a new rack boot to put on when I replace my tie rod ends here in the near future.
