Air Conditioning Clarity Needed 200 85

The 85 DL I bought 2 years ago has a non-working R12 AC

Inspection has given me the following results:

Positive power: turning AC knob on turns fan on low

power goes to dryer/receiver

power does not get past dryer receiver switch

when dryer/receiver is bypassed, compressor clutch engages and turns with very minimal bearing wear noises

Check through sight glass in dryer/receiver: the glass looks like there is water on it and a rapid wind is blowing by

Pressure check: low side (just past dryer/receiver) shows 23p.s.i.

high side (on back of compressor) shows 0 p.s.i.

Have found two hoses for about $35 each, dryer/receiver for $27, and r134 retrofit kit (lots of O-Rings, a piece of hose and lube) for $30.

While relegating myself to replacing hoses and doing a retrofit, what do you now know I have a problem with?

Is dryer/receiver switch shot, or does it not engage when there is no pressure?

Can just switch be replaced or do I replace whole dryer/receiver?

Is compressor shot? Or can this be detected with (probably) no freon inside?

Compressor: VOLVO part #6848077

Dryer/Reciver: Parker 129953
