The AW71 as used behind turbo motors has no loking torque converter. The AW72L used behind the 16-valve motors has lower 1st and 2nd gears and a taller OD and a higher stall speed torque converter to better suit the wimpy low rpm torque output of 16 valve motor. Internally the planet gear width and clutch and brake lining count are the same.
