Re: Volvo 340 DL (B14 engine) question 300 1983

You may have the 'economic' engine type. Do you know the exact code? There was a series which used a single carb with a limited capacity in an effort to reduce fuel consumption. The dual-carb ones push out something between 70 to 75 hp, while the single-carb is somewhere around the 65 hp if

I remember correctly.

Apart from that there's not very much you can do. The engine is a very old Renault designed block which can be traced back to the late 50's to early 60's. It existed in several configurations ranging from approx 1000cc to 1400cc.

You could start doing stuff with a more aggressive cam, porting and polishing, but I don't know if it will give you much, except for taking away the drivability.

It usually is a very durable engine though, which often outlives the body shell.

The successor to this engine type was the (SOHC) 1.7l engine used in more recent 300 series and exclusively in the 400 series.

Bye, Arno.
