Re: Brake drums 120-130 1967

Kurt:

Perhaps you know this already: to do a complete job when cutting brake drums, the new brake shoes must be radiused to match the larger diameter of the freshly machined drum. When drum brakes were all we had and nobody worried about asbestos, this was the standard procedure. I only mention this because you may not have been around in the Dark Ages. Also, a couple of years ago I had some drums cut at the oldest brake shop in town and they could not (would not?) radius the new shoes. They told me the new shoes would bed in. Sure, about the time they are worn out and until then the brakes would be about 25% effective. I made a jig, moved my 12" disc sander outside, donned a dust mask and did them myself. (EPA see note)
