New Battery for 940 900 1995

I think my original battery is about to go in my 95, 940 wagon.

What aftermarket makes and models will work in my wagon?

Can I avoid the dealer and still get a good battery or

should I worry about disconnecting codes and such while the battery is disconnected?

Thanks for any help.
