My 1991 740 (non turbo) wagon is in trouble. I have been experiencing intermittent starting problems for several years. Car would not start after errand type trips, being driven short distances and parked.Lately, it has stalled out while I am driving it. Once it would not start again until the next morning. More recently, it quit in traffic and started again after about 5 minutes(and some choice Italian phrases). In the last 2 years there has been... new fuel pump realy, new fuel pump, rewired fuel pump at sender, replaced O2 sensor fuse, new distributor cap, rotor, o-ring, coil wire and ignition wires. My Volvo shop will have a crack at it again next week. I understand it has a Regina fuel injection computer. Seems like there are lots of problems with the Bosch but have not seen too much about the Regina. Does anyone know about the radio supression relay and how that might figure into the equation? Also, I have never felt that the car idles right, it seems to sputtter and miss. If anyone can shed some light on all or any of this, I would be grateful. I am not a mechanic but I love my Volvo and I am desperate for something that will lead to a permanent cure of it's ills.
