Yesterday my '71 1800E failed to start in the middle of the day, after running fine earlier.
The fuel pump was ok (I could hear it), I even smelled gas at the tailpipe after trying to start it a couple of times. All connections looked ok, the points hadn't slipped, everything seemed fine.
A few hours later, I turned the key and it started right up!
I've heard that coils sometimes fail intermittently; work fine, go dead, then work fine again later. This is not appealing to me!
The coil, installed by the previous owner, is a skinny, no-name, chain-store brand. It even has a ballast resistor, which I don't think the Bosch coils require.
Has anyone had a similar problem with a coil? And if I decide to replace it, does anyone recommend the Bosch Blue coil, or is it likely to fry other components in the system?
Thanks,
Ed
