One more A/C tip for hot weather 200 1991

I'd posted about a VOV experiment I did a few weeks ago. That information is available by emailing me, but I didn't post one other thing that contributed to colder A/C temps.

This tip goes for A/C systems on 200/700/900 cars that use an accumulator/orifice tube system. The expansion valve equipped cars don't apply.

There is a low pressure switch on the accumulator tank which can be cranked back a little bit (like 1/4 turn). To get the adjustment screw, you need to remove the pressure switch from the accumulator tank. You MUST have a low-side gauge for this.

Take a couple of pounds off of the low side cutoff. My comp was cutting out at something like 22lbs, and I cut it down to 20lbs (which equals cooler evaporator temps).

if you cut it down too much, however, the evap will ice, and you will be left with poor cooling, and possible compressor damage. There is a fine line, but most of the cars I've seen have had the switch a couple of pounds too high, especially for retrofit cars (R12 to R134).

It made my vent temps go from around 38 to as low as 36. That's about as low as is practical, without icing the evaporator. I've been riding around, able to see my breath inside the car.
