Altenator Belts 200 1986

The Chilton's manual shows that the 240 has a slide pulley but mine has a tension bolt that is almost impossible to tighten and is now broken. Was it supposed to have this bolt or is it possible to put the slide back on....loose belts causing the altenator to malfuntion.
