What was the BEST factory stereo for 1991 740's?

Looking for the best factory stereo to replace the Alpine CD system currently in my car. Nothing wrong with my current setup but don't like the way it looks in my dash (the way is sticks out) leaving a real fabricated look. Is there a stereo that has a CD player? Will the newer 900 series stereos fit in a 700?

Will be interested in talking trade. My Alpine is a little over 1 year old and works great.
