I have an '83 244 T car with the AW-71 tranny. The OD has stopped working.

It was working fine then started to do a hit or miss type action. My daughter was driving the car for school and towards the end of school she said it was working sometimes and then not. Always worked when I drove it to check it out, of course. But then it just stopped all together. Has anyone had this problem and if so what was your cure? I tried the switch on the shifter, all I got was the light in the dash comes on to say it is not in OD so I know that part works. My wife and I flushed the tranny yesterday [thanks to those who responded with the info on how to do this] as it was in need of this. I took it out for a test drive. All works good except no OD. I looked at the tranny to see where the OD solenoid is and someone has been there as there is red silocone glue applied around the

solenoid. Any ideas/info would be greatly appreciated.
