generic oil filter question... 200 83 rustbucket

So this may sound stupid, but I am just beginning working on my car myself.

Can any oil filter be used on any car? To be more specific - I bought a case of 10 Mann oil filters from IPD, because they fit on both my 1983 245 and 1998 S70 T5. The question is, can I also use them on my 1992 Volkwagon Jetta? It would simplify thing greatly, and allow me to keep only one brand in the garage (and cheaper in bulk).

ps - gonna be a big day for the 245 on Sunday. another new tranny oil pan gasket (gonna use UltraBlue this time). Gonna have a crack at the flame trap as well.
