Brake Lights/Burning Bulbs 700 85

I need your help!!! I have an '85 745 . . .

BOTH of my brake lights stopped working, but the cyclops works fine when I press the brakes. Both bulbs were burnt out. So, I bought new bulbs, although I thought it was a little wierd that both bulbs would go at the same time . . .

Installed the new bulbs . . . one (the right side) burned out immediately. The other one followed a few minutes later.

The fuses are all good, the connections on the light itself are all clean (no corrosion at all). The wires are all tight . . .

What am I missing here?
