car stalls, help! 700 1988

I have a 740 GLE and its stalling. This is what happens,it will run for about fifteen and begin sputtering. I think I hear a possible vacuum sound under the car. I've checked fuses and they are OK. The car will sputter (engine races up and down)and finally stall out. It will not start up till I wait about 1/2 hour, then the process begins again, but it doesn't take so long, about 5 minutes till stalling. Is this a fuel system problem or something else?
