benchtesting air control valve? 200 1981

Does anyone know of a way to benchtest(i.e. off car) the intake air control valve(SAE terminology), also known by Bosch term as idle speed stabilizer?

Blaine England, Volvos galore incl: 1956 TP21,1956pv 444 1958pv 444, 1959 pv445 , 122 estate.(also 245's, but these seem more like appliances)1981 242GLT
