voltage problems on trip back from junkyard 200 82Ti

Hello

First the run down. Alternator was upgrade with 100Amp version and had good brushes when left good friends house 2 weeks ago.

Coming home from that trip the voltage was fine, even better than with the 55Amp alternator previously on there.

But today, it was fine until I hit the major freeway I take to get to Portland and the Damascus junkyard. It was about 30 miles to that freeway, the voltage was fine until then. after getting on the freeway it dropped to around 11 volts and hung there, only popping back up every now and again, sometimes when I downshift, sometimes not, if idling it would seem to pop back up most of the time. There was no apparent pattern to this.

On the way home, on the same freeway encountered more problems.

The voltage hung around 11, but then trickled down to 10 and the point where the car would miss, and not be able to drive. weird thing was, I could pull to side of road and let it sit for a bit, the volts would pop back to 13 or so. get going again and they would slowly drop, it got to the point where I could not drive it safely. So we pulled in for some grub. Come out to start it for testing purposes and see if could get it home and it would not start. It started to turn over slower and slower and slower.

Turning on the headlights to check battery turned out good, but I personally dont think/know how well that test is.

I was thinking maybe the regulator is going out, or maybe a bad alternator we put it, most likely since that was one from a wrecked 740T.

ideas always appreciated.

thanks

take care

Luke
