Accelerator Pedel Removal 1800 1973

I am removing the carpet from my 1973 1800es and cannot get the driver's side carpet removed because of the accelerator pedel. How do I remove ? I see what appears to be two phillips head screws. Am I correct ? If so the heads are worn. The carpet won't come out unless I remove the pedel. The floor pan's are pretty rusty too. Any suggestions ?
