Missing Exh. Manifold Stud - How Serious? 200 1987

'87 244 DL, M47, B230F, 148K miles

I was checking the oil last week, and I happened to notice I was missing an exhaust manifold stud on the #4 cylinder (the stud closest to the firewall on the cylinder closest to the firewall). Is this something I should worry about, or should I just leave it alone? The car runs great and has been perfect for the last 10 months. There does not appear to be an exhaust leak because the boot on the spark plug shows no signs of melting. I believe it was Les Lyne who mentioned an exhaust leak melted the timing belt cover on his 240T, so I don't think I have this problem. Is that because of the extra weight of the turbo strains the studs more and pulls the manifold away? Is there a good chance that an exhaust leak will develop on my car?

The strange thing is that the nut on the same exhaust stud used to be loose. In fact, it wasn't even close to tight because the washer had plenty of room to move around and cause a high frequency vibration with the engine running. I didn't mess with it because it was so rusty, but at least then the stud was still there. Now the stud is gone, so I'm kind of curious how it just fell out.
