'84 is about the right age for a disintegrating wiring harness. Your symptoms are fluctuating temp reading, unstable idle, no-crank. It's possible these three sympotoms are related to wiring that has shorted, corroded, or even broken in the wiring harness, or up around the connector at the firewall.

A quick inspection will tell you if you have this problem. Then you need to determine if it's the cause of your no-start condition.
