Re: Spinning From Clutch in Gear...Clutch Rebuilt within Last 3,000 Miles 240-260 80

If your car has a clutch-return spring (some old 240's do, some don't), if the spring is pulling the clutch fork back properly, and if you STILL hear the "spinning" sound, then it's probably not the throw out bearing, unless the adjustment's WAY off. Is there any free play in the pedal?

If you don't have the return spring, consider installing one. Of course, if the spinning sound is the throw out bearing, it's probably now defective.

Another possibility is the driveshaft center-support bearing, although they usually howl, and usually in the cold weather.

Another remote possibility is a starter motor that does not properly disengage from the flywheel. That would make a SIGNIFICANT "spinning" sound, and one that's also damaging. I saw that once on an early Volvo (B20).

Do you hear the noise only while driving? When parked, in neutral with the engine running? Is it related to pressure on the clutch pedal? Do you feel unusual vibration in the pedal when you push it down?

BTW, at that mileage, I hope the engine rear main seal was replaced when the clutch was replaced.
