It's the wires that you don't see that will get you. The crumbly insulation on the wires you do see can be fixed temporarily with liquid electrical tape...put a few coats on.

Once you start re-wireing selective wires you run the risk of disturbing the

others and creating more problems. Change the entire harness once and be done with it. Use that liquid tape stuff to buy time and save up the money.
