OK, here is the scooop. I've noticed over the past couple of months that when my automatic transmision '87 745 with 175k miles(no turbo) downshifts (esp. when entering freeways or going up hills at around 60-65 mph)out of overdrive (electronic) that there is occasionally a metallic-sounding clashing with a moment of hesitation. It is subtle and seems to occur every 10 seconds or so while under load. The tranny fluid is clean and full and other routine maintenance has been done (plugs, filter, oil). Other than abrupt tranny shifting (prob. worn ball valve) and being so darn sluggish, it seems to run fine. I'm wondering if a plugged flame trap can do this or if it is something more sinister such as a tranny problem or bearing or something. Any ideas would be appreciated.
