turbo / flame trap box 200 83

HELP!

I have a 1983 240 turbo station wagon (5spd.)

Ever since I got it from the original owner about 2 years ago its consumed about 5 quarts of oil a month. The oil is not blowing out of it or dripping. I've been told its being gobbled up by the turbo. Now the turbo has been losing power and it looks like its time to replace it.

So far it looks like anything from $700-$1000 to replace. One guy suggested

that I replace the "flame trap box" first because that may be the problem and not the turbo after all. He said that that would cost $130.00.

I guess what I'm asking is.............Do I take my $130.00 chance that its the Flame trap box, or not waste my time and just get a new turbo?

I hope this makes sense. :)
