U Joints 200 1984

Hi,

How's the best way to diagnose worn U Joints? I hear a heavy "clunk"

sometimes when I'm starting off, never any other time, which I had

been told was the exhaust system hitting the underbody. Recently,

I replaced the entire exhaust with Volvo parts and

had ample time to make sure that the noise wasn't coming from

here.

The Swedish Engineering Newsletter mentions the U joints, but I don't even know where they are or what they do. Thanks for your help.
