I have been reading this board for a few months now and I have to thank everyone for the great tips. However, I have an ignition problem that has just about driven me crazy. Here goes.
It started as a completely random no start problem. No spark. Only on starting. It has never died once I have gotten it started. I checked plugs, wires, distributor, coil, power to coil, coil resistance, ICU, Hall sender. I did every Bentley test they have. Still same problem.
Finally, a bit of luck. I used some contact cleaner and wiggled and pushed all the wires in the ICU harness. Started immediately. Couple of days pass and it won't start, again. spray and wiggle. starts.
So, I figure either I have some corrosion or bad contact in the connector. Can I buy another connector and redo all the wires? Or do I have to buy the whole harness?
I have a sneaking suspicion that this is probably the cause of some of the other no spark no start problems I have read about. I know the mentality of most "factory" mechanics. Replace parts until it works! But us broke folks must find more economic solutions. I hear all of the stories of new harnesses and ICU's for several hundred and I think I would be pissed if I bought all that crap for a twenty dollar connector.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Ryan
P. S. I read someone tested their ICU. I found a test for fuel but not for ignition. Where can I get a copy of the test values for the ICU. That might help narrow my search.
