airbag going off 700 1988

I had my airbag go off this afternoon while pulling back into the lot at work. It really smarts if you're reaching across the wheel as the little doors pop open and smack your wrist. My seaches on the bulletin board don't seem effective as I only turned up two posts that even mention airbags.

I'm somehow not complely surprised my 12yr old electrical system might do something like this. Anyone experience this and any chance Volvo might feel some resposibility? Any thoughts will be appreciated. B Allen
