Transmission gear question 140-160 1971

My '71 142E tranny is the 4-speed/OD, with the 4.33:1 final drive ratio, and has a first-gear ratio of 3.13, giving 13.55:1. In '74, the 140's got a 3.41 first gear, giving 14.66:1.

Would it be as simple as getting a '74 first gear gear and put it in mine? I will be going in anyway, to see why my 2nd gear syncro is slow, after a zillion-dollar rebuild. Is it that easy?

I could sure use a lower first gear to help get off the line a bit better.

Yeah, I know - I'm a fanatic!
