I would really appreciate it if you could give me some advice on purchasing a 1992 960 wagon. I've been looking for a volvo over the summer and i think that i've found the one i want. The car seems to be in excellent shape. the leather is in good condition and everything works fine. i had my mechanic check it out and he said there was a small leak in the transmission but that's no big deal. it seems to be tight and it drives well. it has power everything and 142k miles on it.

the only drawback i have is that my mechanic was urging me not to go with this one b/c of the engine. the 6-cylinder dohc alluminum engine is not as reliable as the old 4-cylinder block engine found in the 240/740/940 apparently. he said that if anything were to go wrong (ie timing belt ) then the engine would just be ruined and would cost more to fix than i payed for the car.

So i need some advice here from all you volvo owners. have you had any problems with your 960 or that particular engine? what do you think? should i buy this car??? your advice will really help me in this decision!
